What About “Location”? The Next Big GBS Shuffle
Posted by Barbara Hodge on January 2, 2023
Determining the right footprint in a world of uncertainty … that’s what most SSO/GBS leaders are worried about right now.
And while it’s not specifically about “closing down” or “opening up” (though more than a third of organizations have increased their number of centers last year and 86% plan to expand the scope of work in 2023) – it is about “optimizing!”
The main shared services/service delivery risk concern, according to SSON Research & Analytics’ latest market research, is access to talent. This reflects worries around global wage inflation as well as tightening labor markets. In fact, 62% of SSO/GBS are reviewing their global footprint as a result.
With cost (no surprise there!) still the leading determinant of location, which country should you be focusing on to expand or build up your capabilities? It might surprise you that there is one country that ticks all the strategic priority boxes, bar two! Nevertheless, the right choice depends on many variables.
SSON Research & Analytics’ latest report looks at Location through the lens of “opportunity.” This report, The Future Location Report: The Next Big Shuffle, is based on a detailed survey of global SSO/GBS, and reflects the drivers, considerations, priorities and risks associated with the “as is" setup.
We will be presenting the highlights of this report in a February 28 webinar, where SSON R&A’s chief analyst will interpret the data and take your questions. Please register for this complimentary webinar here.
